Is that the kit from the auction we talked about? I LOVE that kit. When you get it cleaned up, it is going to be amazing. The Gene Krupa is one of my all time favorite kits. There's a gold sparkle one on ebay (been there forever) that I stare at from time to time. Unbelievable kit. You are going to become a part of that kit. It's one you will hold and cherish.....that is if Space Monkey lets you near it.

Now....so the kit originally was a painted finish...but was it just plain white, or was it a duco or something ???)

Hope the outer plys come out OK, because the shells are probably more appropriate for a wood finish as opposed to being rewrapped. Have you checked the head fit on 'em ?

A lotta times the original painted shells were slightly wider in diameter than their wrapped cousins...making wrapping them a bit of a hit-or-miss.

May be that if you have to go with a wrap, you will have to choose something relatively thin....[/COLOR]

Yep, that's two of the three in that auction. Turns out, the bass was a 12x22 from an Ensemble 5-N Outfit.... not a 14x22..... the seller said he "measured wrong" ... funny how he "measured right" on the other two drums. Anyway, I pitched a fit, so he threw in the two mufflers that came off the toms. There weren't any interior pics of the bass on the auction, or I would have questioned the center mount pass-through lugs on the bass. I just thought with a set so poorly looked after, that it had been reworked with some incorrect hardware, and I'd be filling some holes, and wrapping. I bought another '58 bass that should work just as well.

Nope, haven't checked the head fit yet. I'm hoping for good luck on the condition of the exterior as well. I can see enough of the condition of the ride to say I believe that it would be OK. Keeping my fingers crossed on the FT, four layers of latex, so I'll just have to see. Then there's the bass. It is wrapped in blue glitter.... chances are probably not so good for a nice finish under the wrap. But, one thing at a time, I guess.

Oh yeah, have you cats tried to remove paint with a heat gun..... that ride weighs half what it did painted as it does naked... what a mess!!

The shells if they are 3 play are hot gluued with horse glue....The lacquer and paints can be removed easliy ....just take your time....better to make small attepmts then one large and mess up..

It's coming along very slowly.

Also wood will warp with heat sometimes too...
