Size of C-clip for Speed King Rod

Loading...

My friend's Speed King has an issue, with the rod connecting the foot-board to the heel-plate sliding out laterally. To save me going up there and getting the rod to take to the hardware store, does anybody know the size of the C-clip?

Thanks,

Mitch

I have 6 or more speedkings, there is no clip on the pin. it is a snug fit with the ends of pin just mushroomed over.

over time the holes were pin pass through wears, and pin becomes loose.

I have repaired couple of mine by drilling holes a bit larger and replacing with larger pin and hammer the ends over, don't beat it down tight or foot board will not move freely. you could also use bolt and nut.

Thanks burgundy. This one pictured above does for some reason [previous owner repair?] have clips...which are called "e-clips" not c-clips as I wrote. The rod really looks original, I guess I'll try to get the right clip to keep it that way, and if I can't get the right clip, I'll do what you did.

Thanks again,

Mitch

hey mitch, you got my interest! I dug mine out and found no clips, just mushroomed over, my pins don't look to be as large as yours in size. I do like the idea of a clip as long as it falling out isn't a problem---mike

It's kinda weird isn't it? After your initial response I went on a bit of a massive google image search. The only SK I saw with clips was a repair job from a thread on this forum. And yet...and yet that rod has to be original - has the bleedin same hammertone paint on there! And definitely has an e-clip on the one side....weeeird.

Thanks again burgundy all helpful responses are appreciated. Pedal belongs to a guitarist frienda mine, just trying to help him out...

Mitch I have a SK that Bill F rebuilt. My friend now owns it but he's storing his gear here for a few months. Bill's fix was to install a long screw with a nylock nut on the end so she stays put. Nylock nuts are the nuts that have a nylon insert to prevent it from walking off the screw. My WFL SK pedal is here in a box somewhere. I'll dig it out and check it but think it's just a peened over pin like the one burgundy posted. Also C clips can be squeezed with pliers if they are a tad large. this will get you by until the correct one can be sourced. Good luck!

I have 6 Speed Kings. 5 have pinned over pins. One has grooves in both ends of the pin with c-clips. It's hard to measure but I think the c-clips go on a 3/16" pin. Hope that helps.

Thanks Glenn. This one looks like there's not too much wear/damage - it was me playing it when the pin came out, and we immediately set it aside. I'll remember that c-clip tip.

Well that settles it, my friend has one of those :) And yeah, c-clips, cuz e-clips have those gaps you can get into to loosen them off [I repaired way too many Super8 cameras]. And also yeah, 3/16ths sounds just about right. Very lucky to have one of those old-school hardware stores down the street here, like, they moved three doors down since the original location in 1924. They have everything [except 1/2" grommets] so I'll just get one of each size around 3/16ths.

Ask a question, get an answer. Sweet!
