Sounds like that'd be a blast. You'd have a reason to buy a Pearl kit.Think of the groupie potential. You could share makeup tips with them.

LoLoLoLo Ya, but I can't go on road trips for two weeks at a time. The guy I talked with was the Gene Simmons impersonator, he told me they were all in there late 40's and did there own makeup. He asked how tall I was and when I said 6'1, he paused and said, "oh, you're tall". He told me Peter Criss is 5'7. Even before an audition, I guess I don't qualify.DOH

Although I can appreciate the musicianship involved in a good tribute band, I just don't get how people go crazy about seeing such a show. Years ago, I played cover stuff and had a good time doing it. Now, the music is original and I love playing it! I really can understand all of the hard work involved in learning songs note for note but, some don't seem to understand that it's NOT the original tunes! Who knows though? "Mama Mia" was/is a huge hit. To each his own. Still, I'd rather play original! Brian

You might as well give up walking down the street singing your favorite song. It`s not original.

This applies .

That made me laugh. Very good point.

Sack all the Orchestra's! All those recitals of old Mozart and Bach. Just not original!!

You have a valid point. I do sing or hums some old songs from the past which I think are great tunes. Humming a good tune and watching a tribute band are not the same thing though. I prefer the original.

This applies.

Cover bands and Tribute bands (and there's a difference) fill a big audience demand. It's great that there are so many amateur bands out there playing all original tunes, but if you want to get booked regularly for bars or weddings (paid gigs), you'd best have a solid repertoire of other people's music. While I would have preferred to be playing original heavy metal in the early 70's, covering Chicago and Tower of Power in a horn band earned me enough money to buy a brand new double-bass Rogers set.

And I love Tribute bands (bands replicating the sound and appearance of one particular original group). It's the next best thing to seeing the original artist, especially when that artist is no longer touring or alive, such as the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Simon and Garfunkel, or Sinatra. I recently saw a great Rolling Stones tribute band here in Hartford CT, and it was the closest I will ever come to seeing a young Mick Jagger strut across the stage to Honky Tonk Woman. (think I'll skip the ABBA tribute coming next month though).

What a brilliant analogy! Actually comparing classically trained musicians playing the beautiful scores of Mozart or Bach to modern day tribute bands! Thank you for opening my eyes by sharing your insights!
