Lets see your old and unusual drums

I'd love to see what OTHERS have in the Old and Unusual drum category.

Here's one I picked up this year.

It's a heavy galvanized pail turned into a snare drum of some sort. The history I got with the drum is that it was used by a clown in a travelling circus on the East Coast of the USA in the 1940's. It's 12" diameter and 10 1/2" deep.

The last photo shows the trap-door hole in the bottom - the 4th photo shows the snare setup inside. The thumb screw on the outside bottom is the strainer and release for the gut snares inside the drum. I taped the two photos on the drum......for effect ;) The old stick, bass drum beater and worn wire brush came with the drum and is said to have been used by the clown that owned the drum in the 40's. I haven't checked anywhere on the age of the stick, brush or beater.

I get lots of comments on it. It seems to scare kids and teens tell me it's creepy especially with the photos attached haha - just the way I like it.

It is spooky with those pic's on board... Interesting with the bass port..

(I think other submissions to this thread will Pail by comparison... That is unless of course someone else had one on their own Bucket list) ;)..

Cheers

John

This one is unusual but not real old.........I guess.

It is made from a wastebasket bought at Goodwill.

Stainless Steel Trash Can.

Gary that's pretty cool. At first glance it looks like a old wmp wrap. Until I read it was a old metal pail.

Sir, that shell is the greatest. I saw it before in your previous thread.

Very crafty and beautiful copper.

I got 1 more I made.

5.5x16 Pearl Fiberglass Snare made from a cut off of a 16 FT or from a rhythm traveller, not sure.

The shell belonged to Paul Humphreys of Lawrence Welk fame.

Came from Pro Drum in that size.

Saw the shell and said "That wants to be a big snare"

Oh yeah I got 1 more odd one. The 18" snare.

Wow, that's cooooool.

Made myself one like that too. 16 x 6 inch.

A vintage hoshino floor tom. Cut two 6 inch shells, cut one open and glued it into the other to make an extra thick shell. Used veneer for a finish. 45 with round over bearing edges. Sounds super fat and present. I call it an elephants-piccolo.

Can you actually use yours musically?

I use mine as a side snare sometimes. It sounds too odd to use it as a main snare.

I'd like to see pics of that 18" snare!
