Slingerland Krupa hi-hat stand questions

Loading...

Hello All,

The bass player in my band was given a cheap drum set by a friend of his, and among the hardware was an old Slingerland Krupa hit hat stand. I wasn't able to take any photos, but there is an identical (but incomplete) stand on eBay right now. Photos of the eBay stand are below.

Can anyone tell me the approximate vintage, and give an idea of the value in good and complete condition?

Thanks.

Scott

That looks like the 836 Krupa. It was made 49-73. (Taken from the Slingerland Book by Master Cook)

It's got the straight legs. Krupa later played the 808 Smoothie (69-73) which had a sort of swan leg feel to it.

I love the pedal on that stand. It's one of the most elegant designs of any hihat I've ever seen. If you choose to part with it, PM me with pics. I will offer you a fair price. I'm looking for one. Let others here speak on price. It would not be ethical for me to do so considering I'm interested in purchasing.

Thanks for the quick reply mcjnic! I agree, it's a beautiful piece of equipment - a cross beetween a tool and a work of art. I've seen pics of other Krupa stands with the same cool pedal, but none on a stand like this one, with the pedal support that reaches across to the 'back' leg rather than straight up to the tube and pull mechanism. I also really like the way the height adjustment is made with a twisting sleeve like on a mic stand, rather than some sort of wing nut or screw.

Sorry to say it may already be spoken for - the drummer in this band (not me, I play harp in this particular band) used it last night and fell in love with it. I told the bass player I'd try to get some more info on it for him to see what it might be worth. But the drummer isn't a big vintage aficianado, so if it doesn't work out between he and the bass player, I'll definitely let you know.

Thanks.

Scott
