I honestly don't think those drums are Tama, regardless of the box they were in. I've been doing some research and the 9900 series would have been in the late 70's. However, I can't find the actual 9900! That box only shows a snare drum, rack tom and floor tom. I'm also very familiar with Cherry Wine, as I had a 1986 Tama in this color. It's a gorgeous stained finish. The kit in question appears to be a wrap. Let's see what others have to say. But, for now, I don't think it's a Tama kit.

As you can see, the kit is the X-TRAS series and consisted of 11x12, 12x13 and 16x16 toms, with a 16x22 bass drum and 6.5x14 metal-shell snare drum. It would have been shipped in 2 boxes, with separate boxes for the hardware. I think we can safely say that the drums in question are not Tama!

I had a feeling that they weren't Tama, however they look an awful lot like the kit in the vintagedrumguide site, only that kit is in a Metallic Gold,.. Can't really tell from the pics.. Let's what others have to say, but so far, your conclusion is beginning to make more and more sense..

It's obvious that seller doesn't have a clue what the drums are. My gut says there are MIJ or MIT drums valued at $200 or less.

I knew that Cherry Wine was a stain finish made famous by Tama on their Superstar kits.. I actually owned one in the natural finish..I think this dude has a Supreme drum kit from the early 70's, but i'll see what others have to say first..

Close-ups of the badge would shed light on this. Likely not post-74 Tama, as the lugs indicate before then - but I may be wrong and not familiar enough with the early 74ish Tama.

Well, the seller contacted me and he said he had the drums in the wrong box, which means they are NOT Tama, just as Mark and I suspected..Whatever the case, the ad is gone, which means he either already sold it, or will be putting up the ad later on with the real description.. Anyway, i passed on it.. When i see mysterious ads like this, i tend to go a little "drum flip" crazy ;)
