Feedback on cymbal set up I put togeather

Loading...

This got burried in a question I had about putting ripples on b20, but it became another issue so I reposted. Sorry for the dup.

I am primarily a guitar player, but I always wanted to play drums so I bought a new Tama kit from my local music store 4 or 5 years ago. It came with all brass Meinl HCS that were really bad, so I have been buying cymbals one at a time on eBay. I am pretty happy with my set up now and am just fine tuning. The giant beat may be a bit redundant as the 602 seems better. Any comments about the overall set up greatly appreciated. I still consider myself to be a newbe on drums.

20” Paiste Rude 2002 ride - B8

18” Paiste formula 602 crash – B20

18” Paiste Giant Beat crash – B8 2002 alloy

17” Paiste Alpha Rock crash - B8

16” Paiste signature full heavy crash (cut down from an 18” by Saluda)- signature alloy

14” Paiste formula 602 Hi Hat top – B20

14” Sabian AAX Hi Hat bottom B20 (also have a Sabian B8 with ripples added)

12” Saluda Decadence – B20

10” Paiste signature splash – Signature alloy

10” Zildjian Edge splash – B20

8” Paiste signature splash - Signature alloy

That all good. A few more would even be better. Too many would be just about right.

Nice collection there, you def have the bright/glassy arena covered.

I assume you like the Euro type sound.Even the non paiste cymbals you have are on the bright end from the other makers.

The giant beat series from 18 up are considered to be crash/ride cymbals,I don't think they are redundant with the 602.

You might check out the dirtier more organic "Turkish" style cymbals from Zil Sabian bosphorous etc just to see how the other half lives.

I have a couple of Saluda mist X crashes that I really like, bright but have some dirt to the sound.

Would this be like the HHX line of cymbals? I am not entirely sure how "turkish" style transalates to cymbals that might be available on eBay. Thank for the response. This is what I was looking for and I will definately take it under consideration I just need a little more guidance.

In the past, the German/ European makers ( Paiste/Meinl) made cymbals that were brighter and more focused than than the turkish style makers.

Sabian and Zil are from Turkish origin,Bosphorous and Istanbul agop and Instanbul Mehemet are actually made in Turkey.

Theres a lot to to it but the the main difference in my opinion is the hammering of the cymbals, the Turkish style incorporates "irregular hammering" as opposed to" regular" hammering. irregular hammering means that there is variation to the amount pounds per square inch of force used, softer to harder, which makes the cymbal have ares that are more different in pitch, high medium low etc, which gives what some people hear as more complex and or darker sounding or Earthier, more organic etc.

Sabians Brightest Line would be AAX,darkest HH,with the HHX being a little brighter and cutting than the HH. Zil's brightest is the A line, with the Kerope series being the darkest IMO.I think the Bos and Istanbul offerings are all pretty much on the Dark side with some lines being darker than others.
