Stamped " medium " in red ; no other stamps have ever been on this cymbal . 2750 grams . Just curious if this is a relatively rare bird or not .

Thanks . Confirms what I thought . Like I said , the only logo this cymbal has ever had is the red MEDIUM one on the top .

The MEDIUM is a different model from the MEDIUM RIDE. Both were available in a large range of sizes. We're still collecting info on just what the differences are: weight range, hammering style, bell height and diameter, bow (profile rise), degree of taper. It's a long road to getting quality data.

From my factoids database: part of the rarity of a 22" is the relative rarity of 22" vs other diameters (whether or not they have the ink still on, or the ink says MEDIUM).

18" n=167 or 18%

19" n=58 or 6%

20" n=450 or 49% <<<< about half of the sales are 20"

21" n=42 or 5%

22" n=148 or 16% (includes the rare 602 dark rides)

23" n=4 or 0%

24 n=42 or 5%

total sales 911 excluding excluding thin, crash, paperthin, china, flat (basically anything which can obviously be excluded). But we don't know what proportion of MEDIUM vs MEDIUM RIDEs there are very accurately because once the ink is gone we can't tell.

In my tracking data I've got a record of how many 22" had the ink still on and were specifically the MEDIUM model. There are 6 over the years I've been tracking (2006 onwards). Versus 17 20" MEDIUMs. Price range $300 - $400 for those 22" MEDIUMs. But note that in the early tracking days I might have missed out on coding them as specifically MEDIUM as verified by the ink. My coding criteria evolved as I learned more about what details are most important.

You can compare 22" prices via my signature, but I don't think the old tables there differentiated between MEDIUM and MEDIUM RIDE for the usual reason: we can't tell which model they are once the ink is gone. An the sample sizes weren't large enough back then (2011). But it does look like there is lots of variability in the 22" prices and they overlap completely with the MEDIUM prices. The other factors (like blue label, condition, etc) are also in play making simple comparisons difficult.

Hope this helps.

I think I have one tooMine weighs in at 2770g but as it lacks a stamp I don't know for sure. I don't think it is a ride as the ping is more crash cymbal like - a sweet silvery ping over a beautiful wash. And it wobbles like hell!! I don't know how common they are but I love the thing - here's a pic of my kit with the said cymbal between my ride and China. It's a truly amazing crash/ride.

I have a 20" Pre-serial Paiste 602 medium ride that looks almost brand new which I never play. If anyone's interested PM me for pics and details.
