Look what I found!...

They haven't seen the light of day in 15+ years!

Bought them new in 1983! Yamaha Recording Custom kit. Look in the 1983 catalog first couple of pages. That's what I bought at the time RC 794B.

Nice kit all in standard sizes. 8x8, 10x8, 12x8, 13x9, 14x10, 15x12 rack toms, 16x16, 18x16 floor toms and two 24x14 kick drums in black gloss lacquer.

Dug them out of the garage last week... Gonna start playing again after a 15 year hiatus. So glad I never sold them (thought about once but decided not to, phew!)

Bought a new HexRack2 for them, some new cymbals etc... the hardware was shot, completely worn out. Played them constantly from when I bought them new in 1983 until 2000 when I moved my family and I stopped playing.

Got gigs with some old friends already... Got a lot of work to do!

So happy to be back at it! flowers2

Excellent drums. I played a set similar to this (single 22"bass) at a church in Manchester,NH. They'd been ridden hard and put away wet...I wish they'd followed me home...

What sort of wood are they made from, they aren't the 100% birch type are they?

Yes, they are the all birch Recording Custom from 1983. Two of the drums are late 1982 the rest made in early 1983. None of the drums have serial numbers, only the letter designations for the year and month they were made as shown in the picture of the plate on one of the kick drums. If I remember correctly the toms are 6 ply birch and the kicks are 8 ply birch.

This picture is from the 1983 catalog I found on this website (I still have the catalog somewhere here at home I think)... That is the set I purchased new in November 1983.

Beautiful !! And standard sizes too !..If ever you feel like selling them (which you shouldn't) you'll have no problem selling as a complete set or split in two.. Piano black finish ?... Classic, gorgeous vintage Yamaha.. Lucky you ! Congrats ;)Cool1
