Teardrop shaped bass tension rod?

Loading...

Just got a cheap set of MIJ drums/ mahogany 20/16/13/12 that have strange teardrop bass drum tension rods- anybody identify please? The hoops look like Star but the lugs are different than ones I've seen with no bump in the middle (just 3 grooves) Thanks for any help- JD

The bass drum T-rod in the photo is older 1960's Japanese issue.

These were manufactured knock-offs of Trixon rods, but unlike the Trixon bass T-rods which were 5mm x .8mm threads, embossed with the "Trixon" logo across the handles, these knock-offs were made with standard 12-24" threads, with no embossing.

I've often seen these knock-offs incorrectly listed for auction on eBay; described as "genuine Trixon bass drum rods".

Pity the poor purchaser who finds to their dismay that none of these rods will fit Trixon drums.

Thankx for the info- the spade style tom mounts say 'Made in Japan' but no other markings are on the drums- no badges but a nail hole evenly spaced on each side of the vent....yeah Buckie they do look like Gretsch knock offs- and I'll look up Trixon to see how close they ripped the design off! here is a vent hole and what is left of the dampener (2 like this):

Thanks again!

(LATER...) You nailed it Buckie- I pulled a rod outta my '68 Luddy Keystones and the 'fake' Trixon fits right in there... good heads up for potential Trixon buyers- the real ones do say 'Trixon' in cursive and have a pebbled or 'bead blast' background- fakes have no name and a crosshatch background. Thanks again- and you think probably Norma? on my Japanese set.......I appreciate your help-JD

The two nails would be correct for a Norma Badge JD

There would of course normally be a metal grommet in the center

But on the drum in my pic it is missing

THANKS ALL- You got it ID'd straightaway-Kenwood that's a forensic answer!- (nail-hole analysis)...great!- now I know I can use them for whatever I like as they have been abused much anyway (the guy was gonna pay me to take them away)- so I can salvage what I want for fun. Probably won't use the bass rods but will keep them on a shelf as a 'bastardized Trixon' part! Just to show others what NOT to buy... they are cool and I can see why Trixon used them now thanks to Buckie_B ....Knowledge appreciated as always! (and a new appreciation for lost tooling....) Thanks again JD
