Tom Mount on Bass Drum

Guest

I am going to be removing the tom mount from my bass drum. I will be mounting the drums on stands instead.

What is a good way to cover up the holes left behind by the tom mount? Are there plugs or something which can be put in?

What have some of you done to resolve this, if in fact anyone has?

Hi,

I have used hardwood dowels. That is one common remedy. There is a lot of good advice out there on using dowels, bondo (never tried), and cuts from a sacrifice shell (again haven't tried).

My favourite tool for the chore was a little japanese saw that lets me cut close to flush.

The end grain of the dowels will often color up more than the rest of the wood if you are finishing them rather than painting.
