China Crisis!

Stop me before I buy again!

Last week..I bought...

1-24" (!) 1970's UFIP

1-18" A.Zil Swish...60's-70's....clean,,and still has blk letter Swish on it!

1-18" IAK...

1-18" early Sabian AA Fast Chinese....

Will want to flip some....as soon as I put them through their paces!Looking for the ultimate China....for that Charlie W. thang.....

Had a prototype EAK 17" China once...NOS!..Got $400 for it......from Neil Finn.......I think it was the best China I have ever had,and told him as much!....Very thin......

I like to collect Splashes and Chinas for some reason......maybe because I have heard it is good to have BOTH when you play live?

I haven't used a China in years, but recently got a Meinl Dragon China Crash hybrid type cymbal, 18" 1515 gram. Looks a bit like a Wuhan, wouldn't surprise me if it was made in Wuhan and ink stamped at Meinl. I like it a lot. It makes for a nice Ride cymbal and has a very trashy, fast crash sound. It's the closest thing to a China cymbal that I've used in good while. I tried it in rehearsal and it didn't really project over the loud amps, but works well in quieter stuff.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

The Swish is fast/bright...the 17" K is warmer...more mellow........going to jam on them at a gig end of month........

A tam-tam is another word for gong......

A pang is a form of China,correct?...

So...you can use upside down........like Pang cymbal.....or...hang from 2 factory holes...for gong effect....

Yes the Pang has a flat edge lip where the China/Swish lip bends up slightly. I have both 20" Pang and Swish 70's versions. Pang is a great ride cymbal. I use them inverted/upside down too. My Swish was never drilled for rivets. I'd like to find one on the lighter side for fast decay. But both sound excellent as is.
