Please, help me with this snare ID

Loading...

I've just picked up this little 13" beauty! No badge only "205" written with a pencil inside. I know Sonor used a 3-digit code for date. If so, this would have been made in May 1952. However, the lugs are made of aluminium and I wonder if they really used that metal in the 50's. So could it be from 1962? Well, isn't the model a little too old for that decade? The big timpani T-rods makes it look more like an english snare.

Appreciate all the help I can get!

throw off looks Brittish

shell construction looks German

but.... if Brittish or German, being that you'd expect metric sizes.

From bartw

shell construction looks German

Yes, that's right.

It's LEFIMA snare, one of models before 1961 (or the same TACTON -- just after Lefima factory nationalization, 1961-66).

Digits "205" is not a date marking -- it's a factory's internal operating code only.

Sweet sounding snare.

Cheers,

George.

This strainer is an original earlier Tacton, no any doubts.

Here is identical snares - wood (red) and metal (yellow) shells.

Спасибо за вашу помощь. Thanks!!!!!

What would I do without you?

bartw: I have a 50's Trixon metric size drum set but the rack tom will take 13" heads as it equals 33 cm.
