70s imperialstar worth?

Loading...

I have what I think is a 70's tama imperialstar...

I can get the serial no.s if you want.

reinforced hoops

good bearing edges

minor pitting in the lugs but no rust

I rewrapped this kit with a champagne gloss glitter and the pictures don't really do it justice. ( I put the dixon bd head upsidedown 'cause I don't want anyone thinking its a crummy dixon kit)

also the snare (not seen in the photo) is a heavy ass chrome on steel brute whith those heavy duty imperialstar snare strainers ( will try and send pics if you want) I noticed the snare has a ring of decorative vertical lines around the middle of it unlike the conventional horizontal lines similar to a dynasonic. The snare havs a bit of scratches in the chrome but is still looking nice.

what do you think this kit is worth approx. ( they have new batters and resos' all around)

The Imperialstars were very good drums but they don't seem to sell for much money. I would say just the drums without the snare might be around $350-$400 in very good original condition. The snare, however, is worth something depending on which version you have. During the 80's Tama never referred to there metal snares as Imperialstar snares even though they had a Imperialstar badge. The general public does refer to them that way however but it can cause confusion because there are different lines. They had the Mastercraft line which was the top of the line, the King Beat and then the Powerline. All used the same shell and all had the Imperialstar badge. The main differences are in the strainer system. If you go to tama.com and click on the "catalogs" link it will show you all there old catalogs and you can look up which one you have. I have seen the early 80's Mstercraft 6.5 inch with the diecast rims and long high tension lugs in excellent original condition sell for $150+ on ebay. Thats the best and most desirable one.
