The hi hats were worth that.

Yeah I didn't even look at those lol. That's a good point!

Hello surfdrummer and Mitch

Thanks for the replies

I looked at a few other threads online related to the hats

one mentioned the Swiss made cymbal being of better quality generally

which surprised me some

as I would have thought the German made would have been the better of the two

in any event aside from some collectability based mostly on nostalgia

as they were often factory issued with the Ludwig drum kits of the day

most were saying the quality was pretty hit or miss

and in this particular case the two are mis-matched Swiss and German

I was not sure how much they factored in to this Duke deal

You are only missing a few easily obtained parts, source them here, give the chrome a good cleaning and try rubbing down the satin with Olive oil. They will look nearly new and you'll spend almost nothing.

With that rare color wrap those drums will be worth far more than you paid. I wish I could stumble across a deal like that!

Hello MutantMozart

Thank You for the reply

I am hoping when the kit arrives that it will indeed

match the floor tom shell I have had hanging around at the shop here

I got it along with three carloads of random stripped down Japanese drum shells

I bought at a drum graveyard sale for about four bucks a shell

this 16" avocado satin flame shell was one of only two floor tom carcasses of the whole lot

the other being a 14" orange sparkle with "Westwood" badge

which I immediately matched up to a needy partial

If these Dukes do match color-wise with my tom shell

of course I will be a pretty happy camper

Interesting your advice regarding the olive oil I can certainly give that a go

But yes indeed between the green satin flame wrap

the Duke badges and the Sonor-like hardware I guessed they had something extra ordinary going for them

Hello Father-42

Yes that is just how to look at it Thanks again

I have the Duke kit here and they are a match to my floor tom shell

Not only are they the very same avocado satin flame

but they are in just as fair to poor shape has the floor tom shell

I sort of knew this going in so I am not complaining

and they are always somewhat worse on arrival than in the pictures

The mounted tom is the worst being just full of scratches

The drums are really filthy

with mud or muck and rust caked into the inner grooves

of the chrome bass drum hoops

The bayonet mount at some point

became separated from the knurled rod it is pressed onto

as they often will do ..so someone put it back together and peened it back over

as best they could

Only problem being they rejoined the bayonet back onto the rod backwards

making the mount pretty much ineffective without first separating the two pieces once again and rejoining them properly

still and all they are mostly complete and wrapped a cool, not seen so often color

But the best days for these old Duke's are well behind them

I bought them mostly for their odd color and not as a re-wrap project

so even with a good amount of TLC they will always be best viewed from a fair distance .............. Kenwood

I would say that the Ludwig Paiste standard cymbals alone are worth around 150-$200 maybe ?

Hello human71

Thanks and yes I am surprised some by that

I had some 13" Luddy standards on my very first kit (these here are 15")

They were okay I suppose ,but of course my hardware in general was terrible

typical pro pedal or worse Japanese made stuff

and being a kid I never had any dough to upgrade anything back then

Who knew the hats would become so collectable?

As I mentioned they are mis-matched (one being Swiss made the other German)

dirty, tarnished, and with some edge kinks and dings but no actual cracks

The cymbals were not at all my motivation or focus on buying these Duke's

It was more this orphaned, beat up, stripped down,

five dollar avocado satin flame floor tom shell

That I have had hanging around here in the boneyard that I flashed on

As soon as I saw this Duke partial kit (hurting for the FT)

show up on the Wisconsin rapids Craig's List

I knew I wanted to have them all together as a complete kit again

Even in spite of the rough condition

mainly because of the color, but also the seldom seen Duke badges

along with the Sonor knock-off hardware
