Ludwig Ghost Pedal Repair!

Loading...

Hello everyone, after all these years of use, my pedal spring finally got tired. My Ludwig Ghost pedal is from the mid 70's. Anyone know how to take these things apart and or anyone know of anybody that repairs them? Thank you, Doug

Thank you for the great information, hope to able to get it repaired though. Not sure how the outer caps come off these pedals, if I could get at the springs I could get this beauty fixed and back together.

Thanks!

Not familiar with the Ghost (only seen pictures) but I do remember somebody mentioning using the expansive charateristics of heated metal to remove the caps on a Speed King.

He either heated the frame or cooled the caps... I can't remember which.. but he said they came right out.

Might be a tip... again I don't know what the caps on a Ghost look like.

That won't work on a Ghost pedal.....the "caps" are retained by an internal snap ring. Very difficult to remove once they have been fitted. Chances are though, once you do get them off, you won't be able to get the spring wound back up and the cap refitted without s lot of difficulty. Sounds to me like one of the springs has broken by what was described. If this is so, finding a replacement will be slim to none. Better off finding another pedal in better shape.

If you ever could get it open I wonder if the starter rope recoil spring off a string trimmer or small chainsaw could be modified to work in there,,??

If you decide to give up on it... PM me... I'd take a go at it and be happy to send it home to you.. maybe in broken pieces.. maybe working :D

Jim....been there before....the Ghost is just not repairable without the original factory setup specs and special tools.....nevermind replacement parts!

Thank you, I just purchased that one for $65.95 w/shipping to replace mine. I have the DW 9001 dual pedal and was thinking of purchasing another 9000 for the practice kit. The action and lightness one the pedal of the Ghost I just can't give up. Hopefully this replacement will hold up for awhile. My original pedal had 35 years on it. Guess I got my $$ worth. Thanks again!

Cool! I hope it works out for you.

- - Having a 2nd one may make it worthwhile to "operate" and experiment on your old one and possibly write the book on fixing them, or at least, give you some extra parts for the other, or to "part out" on ebaby for your "Save The Ghost Fund" Eye Ball BOO!!!

btw - yeeeeeaaars ago I used to have a broken one - left side of the frame broke clean through - I was a mere waif and couldn't fix it. Who knows where it vanished to. C'est La Mort Falling Do
