Vintage Star Drums hand painted for Art exhibit

Loading...

Hello

If my pictures attached- which is always a 50/50 proposition- this is a set of Star Drums mij that I bought already stripped with bags of hardware for $30. I painted them and varnished them into this "Underwater" theme. Got to pick a name. This set is entered in a local Art Exhibit/ Contest. They had to be turned in tomorrow and I am missing some parts that have been delayed by weather. (Bass hoops, heads, Tom heads, ). So the bass hoops and tension rods will be original as soon as I can switch them out. They actually sound pretty good. Punchy but much quieter than my Gretsch or Mapex sets.

That is so neat. Amazing idea and execution. I love it.

Should maybe have just a plain white coated front head on the bass drum for an art show appearance... [secretly that's just my preference anyway]...and if you really wanted me to think up more work for you, you could paint the bass drum interior in the same theme and put clear heads on it. Not right now, of course...:)

Hello, Samiam!

That is a stunning piece of art, sir! Did you use acrylics? If you are using a bass head with a Star logo, perhaps you could incorporate a star fish into the design. Maybe wrapped around the star? Your drums could then be entitled "Star Fish" percussion instruments. Just an idea. At any rate, a beautiful kit!!!

Wow, that's what is missing in my marine biology lab :D.

I'm not allowed to take my work home, but never thought of takinf my hobby to my work.

Great job!

In addition to Salty-1322's name suggestion:

You could consider to merge the words STAR and ART into something like:

START- fish, but then in such a way that the two separate words stand out more than now is the case.

Good luck, and love to see the end results.

I like the clear head idea. You could make it look like a fish tank/aquarium and suspend a fish or two inside so they could"swim" around.Probably not real fish though.Jim(former art teacher for 30 plus years).Nice painting by the way!

Hey, Jim!

That's a great idea! Way better than mine! That is true thinking outside the box! Cool!
