Help with Snare I.D.

Loading...

Is this 10-lug snare a Rockers snare from the '84-'90 era? The serial number on the badge is 855235. I ask because I've never seen a gold one. Also, anybody have any idea how these sound and what they normally go for in today's market. Is this simply an extremely low-end snare, quality and sound-wise?

Any "words of wisdom" would be GREATLY appreciated.

THANKS for your time and your help!

Thanks, Mark. Would this be considered a "low-end" snare, quality-wise? I'm not familiar with any of the newer models.

These are import shells and I think they are bronze, right? Even though they look brass.

Your snare drum is a Bronze shell Rockers series snare drum with bowtie lugs, and black and white badge.. They are made overseas, and are lower budget, with a low budget throw-off, but are great sounding snare drums even at a budget price range.. They have the warmth of wood and are darker than most metal snare drums..This is the same type of alloy used on cymbals.. They are similar to the Acrolite snare drums, only darker.. Good little snare drum that can sound warm and fat , with a nice crack .. As an occasional live and in- studio drum tech, i would recommend a Remo Control Sound(CS) Black Dot coated drum head, because the shell has already dark overtones and you don't want it to sound too flat..Ambassador clear on the snare side and there you have it.. You've got your own Bonham style snare sound on a budget ! As far as value, these can go from anywhere between $125-$175..

Ludwig doesn't have them with bowtie lugs anymore, and on their current website,

they have imperial lugs and P-85 throw off and butt plate..

Here's a link to all the different lower budget wood and metal snare drums Ludwig offered at one point..

Hope that helps.. ;)

I have a 5x14 just like that. I put a decent strainer on it. I love the way it sounds. I paid $180. Goes to show the importance of proper research before buying. I love the drum though.

180 for a bronze drum that sounds nice is a very good thing!
