I bough the shells of a 4 pc Star drum set to paint for an art project. I know that Star became Tama in what I believe was 1974. I only paid $25 for the four pieces and I realize they hold little value but is there any love for these sets at all? I have no idea how this set sounds yet. It is without question the thinnest shell I have ever seen. Reinforcement hoops on the toms and bass. 20,14, 12, 14 sizes. Like I say not refurbishing to play but for entry into a judged art exhibition. Any Star owners out there tell me something about them
Star Drum Set
There's a few Star fans about. Sounds like a bargain regardless
Could you please post pictures of before and after? I'm allways interested in drum/art projects.

Well, I'd say, no longer only a 'few'. My experience: the community with a soft spot for Star grows almost daily ...
:)
Would also love to see a pic of the before status.

Have to agree with Ralf on his reply! I would also love to see pictures!

I like star drums too, becoming quite a bit of a fan actually. The tie dye kit i did is a star made drum set with mixxed hardware. I really like this kit. it has a really good sound to it, would not be affraid to set it on a stage and gig it. would love to see your project progress. am curious to see what you do with them. please add photos and documentation of what you are doing with the drum, we'd all like to follow your project.

If you have any wrap on them - happen to have blue sparkle?
There is another thread on here right now - someone looking for some wrap for a hoop inlay - in blue sparkle.
Great shells (arguably the better of the 2 types in Vintage MIJ) - will sound great. Be sure to 'color' them in something you will enjoy for years to come - because the chances are this kit will sound so good - that you will not want to sell.....ever.

I will post a picture of the bass drum when I can get to my garage door again!!! It is a red sparkle. And the bass drum is the only one still with wrap. The hardware is all in pretty good shape really very similar to a Rogers R360 that I painted as another project. You can see that one on the usa section. Look for pictures tomorrow.
Came around a Set of Star drums myself..
However these were a Sample kit or ?
