Looking for a late 80's to early 90's, preferably Arctic White Pearl MLX 14x14 floor tom.
Here you go. I haven't seen them yet. Are these 70s fiberglass?
Definitely 70s. If they are fiberglass. There will be a label, on the other side that says fiberglass. Look here and you'll be able to see what I'm talking about in the 1976 catalog. http://www.drumarchive.com/Pearl

Thanks for the link! I am going to see these drums tonight. I am a Pearl guy (love my Masters Custom Maple MMX!) but I am not familiar with the 70s lines. Are these collectible? Worth $200 for a five-piece in good condition? (the fiberboard cases are worth AT LEAST...say...$5...)

If they are indeed fiberglass, at namm this year Pearl reintroduced the line (wood/fiberglass). So interest will definitely be there, if you're looking to flip. Value is hard to determine. Lots of factors involved in value. But for $200.00, you couldn't go wrong.

Thanks for your thoughts. I am finally going to see these drums this evening. If I purchase them, I will post pictures :)
Folks - I would appreciate your advice. I purchased the Pearl Wood-Fiberglass drums last night. I paid next to nothing for them - the ladies of the house simply wanted them out of the garage. A couple of the drums have cracked wraps. The others are in reasonably good shape for 40-year-old drums. Came with a Pearl snare - unfortunately not a Jupiter snare!
My question: what would you do with these drums? Do they need to be re-wrapped? Is it worth the effort? I've never taken on that sort of project.
Configuration is kind of cool - 24x14, 12x8, 14x10, 16x16.
Thanks for any advice you can offer!
Tom
Good looking drums. Looks like the wrap has been painted.
Just my opinion... and as much as I hate to say this, they're probably NOT worth rewrapping (thru Precision or Jammin Sams) unless you just plan on keeping them yourself. There are some cheaper rewrap solutions out there, but in most cases you "get what you pay for." Precision and Jammin Sams offer quality wrap.
IF you do rewrap, do Sam's "tape method." When you pull the old wrap off, you'll find that's what was originally done.
Looks like the throw-off on the snare is broken off at the top. Otherwise, even though not a Jupiter, these were good sounding SDs but NEVER highly sought after. When I've had one of these I can typically get about the same out of it as a Ludwig Acrolite (even though it sounds more like a Supra!).

Well those are indeed solid drums - I have the wood version with the same snare, 1973 or so. Very well made. But I don't think the market is great for those, especially with the wrap messed up and the snare throw issue. Still, you can make a few bucks.
If you keep 'em, there are cheap rewrap options, like the "Credit Card - Thick" stuff which I used to wrap an old Ludwig Rockers kit. If you're in a punk band, who cares what they look like?
