Ideas for re-wrap colors on 80's Yamaha Tour Kit?

Greetings,

I recently purchased a mid-80's Yamaha Tour Kit. I think these were lower end Yamaha's for the time, but the shells are built like tanks and they sound great (they also have the diagonal seam, a Yamaha trademark). It's a 4 piece (no snare) 12/13/16/22, all in traditional or standard depths. It's just like the kit below (except with different size toms).

Mine is the basic and boring black wrap. I want to go a little outside the box on this one and am wondering what you guys think would be a cool and interesting wrap for this configuration, lug design etc.

I have many kits and have most of the sparkles covered (no pun intended). I also have Red Onyx, Blue Onyx and BDP kits too. I want this one to be completely different. I was thinking maybe either Vintage Sky Blue, Charcoal or Blue Pearl (See Below). WMP came to mind, but I think that is more "classic" and wouldn't look quite as good on a "modern" kit, at least to my eye. Any suggestions from you guys on what would look cool but also still say "Yamaha"?

How about a glass glitter? Many of these colors really pop under lights! I recently wrapped a Tama snare drum in Super Tangerine. Wow! Another color that might look really nice, also available from Precision Drum, is Pewter Glitter. Just some thought for you! Let us know what you decide to use!

Gotta be honest: When I think of Yamaha drums post-'60s, I don't really think of pearl or other vintagey wraps, especially with the more contemporary looking hardware.

If anything, I think a sparkle/glitter is a better choice (even though you mentioned that you have much of that covered).

If you have to unwrap these, my vote would actually be to refinish in a stain. Yes, more work but these would look fantastic in a stained finish.

These should be really nice, punchy shells...birch and mahogany, I believe?

i can picture these in the real bright neon colors that were popular in the 80s.

how bout a neon psychedelic pattern? you did say you wanted something different.

i also don't think of yammys with spkls or marbles. doesn't seem "period" to me.

how about some serpentine or swirl wraps? i don't know if the following will sell a kits worth as it comes in a big roll, but a indie drum shop would have some in stock and most do re-wraps on the side:

Thanks for the suggestions!

I was browsing at Jammin Sam and they carry a few colors that Precision does not. I really like the Black/Silver Sparkle and I'm really digging the White/Blue Onyx (kinda reminds me of stonewashed/acid washed jeans)!

I could go completely overboard and use the Purple Satin. Those are so hideous that they are............................awesome! I think I might make a few people seasick!

I like the black! But otherwise Mellow Yellow or Cobalt Blue.

Exactly. Great point and suggestion. Go natural.

Though did Yamaha ever had white marine pearl wrap? Might be fun. You could tell vintage enthusiasts that yes, it was an original wrap and drive them crazy!!
