Distance between lug's holes and bearing edge on '70 Ludwig shells

Loading...

Can somebody please tell me what would be the distance between the lug's holes and the bering edge on a '79 Ludwig bass drum (large classic lugs) and a 8x12 tom (small classic lugs)?

I'm converting some Ludwig concert toms into a sort of fake jazzette and i would like to be as precise as possible..

Thanks a lot

I measured my shells for you, keep n mind they have been sanded on a flat surface to flatten/ true the edges.

8x12, 1 5/8" from edge to center of first hole. Holes are 1 1/4" on center.

Bass drum, 2 1/16" from edge to center of first hole, holes are 1 11/16" on center.

I gave you center to center dimensions, not "between" dimensions.

Holes are a strong 1/4" diameter, so like 9/32.

If your going to do the job for sure then buy the lugs before you drill.

Hope that helps, have a great day!

Thank you!

Not to be captain obvious but, couldn't you just measure on the batter side of the shell?

The lugs on concert shells ..... Ludwig, anyway, are placed a bit closer to the center of the shell.

Also as I understand it concert toms use the small classic lug casings on all the sizes so they will always look a little different.

Maybe that's just on marching drums?

I have a 10x14" 6 ply blue and olive badged, concert tom that has eight small lug casings, two clipper mounts, and an alluminum ring protecting a finished bearing edge on the bottom.

Maybe it's part of a quint, quad or trio arching set?

Thanks, on my concert tom shells that distance is (almost) always the same: 2 1/16" - 2 1/8"..
