Mitch, the burn marks show my lack of experience at keeping a continuos motion while trying to keep the hoop flat on the table. Felt like I needed 4 hands!
I am planning on finish sanding and going the standard black paint on these. I don't think clear maple or stain would look as good with silver or green.
I'm still on the fence though. Clear maple and green might look OK.
I should make some good progress toward finishing these this weekend.

Well I still think they look cool, though admittedly I'm a weirdo about that kind of stuff. If you darkened them a bit with stain or oil I think they'd look great with the green and blue sparkle.
However they're decidedly your drums...:)

All finished up. I've been playing the green kit and they sound amazing! I'm very impressed with the 17" drums as bass drums. Super punchy and very powerful for their size. Funny, I asked my wife what she thought of their sound and she said "they sound more woody than your Rogers drums". She hit the nail right on the head. These are very warm and "woody"!
Oh man! You didn't play around Randy. One in clubdate and one in classic setup. Love the colors too. The playon plastic head on the green one is great! Well done.

Randy - I'm completely blown away! You couldn't buy two kits like those for love or money. The faucet handle T-rods on the bass drum of the clubbie kit is a home run. They look great, both kits.

PS - Mike Layton! Dude, you're way too shy. You have some of the coolest drums in creation and nobody knows about them. You have to start doing some threads on your stuff. I know you for years and I haven't seen but a piddly of what you have. You've put together some amazing kits and drums... show them off! That's what we all do here, jump in, the water's fine. I want to see more of your drums please. J

So I have a WFL 17X12 and I want to do what was done above in this thread.
Does anyone have any 18" hoops that they would want to sell?
As a bass, this tennor drum should sound killer it has calfskin heads in great shape and 3 ply with a mahogany interior.
A drum partner in crime of mine used to make rope tensioned drums and he bought raw unglued wooden hoops in various sizes from Cooperman Fifes and Drums in Vermont. They have changed ownership recently and seem to be concentrating on their drum sticks, but it might be worth checking in with them. Good luck!
