Those are harder to find....but keep a 'star badge' search active in your ebay. I was thinking about doing the same with a kit I have, but decided to leave it original - no badges. This will 'document'/prove that Star made some unbadged kits - sold perhaps at Sears/Montgomery Wards, etc??

Just two months ago I was considering to let someone produce exact replicas of this badge. But I refused to do it 'cause the price would be too high (acc. to my opinion): EUR 15 - 18 for each one badge. I don't think that anyone is willing to pay such a high price for a replica, even if made in excellent condition and very equal to the genuine ones.

I don't think the price is that bad if they were going to be very good quality. In Canadian dollars right now you're talking 21-25 dollars. Expensive, but given that I can't find any available badges for restoration purposes, maybe worthwhile. The last chance I had to purchase a badge, from feebay Germany, the price went to 20Euro or so and I still lost! I would be interested if the price was closer to 15CAD (11-12Euro), considering I would have to mail or ship them too.

I agree. I'd be willing to pay that much if it was a good quality job. They are just so hard to find, and when you do find one, its the wrong one!

I'm in the final steps of the realisation of STAR badges as a replica (which, by the way, will cost below EUR 10 per one piece). But there may be an issue about the grommet (in USA or elsewhere), so I'd appreciate your help.

I know that the exact genuine diameter of the Star grommet is 8 mm.

Question to those of you, who intend to buy such replicas: what would be the ideal diameter of the hole in the badge, so that you can buy locally a grommet fitting into it?

I'm afraid that if I make the replicas with 8 mm holes, that it could be hard for you to find fitting grommets anywhere - leading to extra work for you afterwards to widen the hole in the badge for the bigger grommet to fit into it.

Or I can make the hole 10 mm and additionally offer fitting grommets from ST drums (in 8 or 10 mm depth).

What's your opinion about it? Any comments would be appreciated.

Hello Star drum lovers,

Today I'm proud to present the newly made Star badge replica:

A an original one,

B the replica and

C the replica, but in an aged shape by simply rubbing a finger with graphite over it.

I’m really pleased about the quality of the replica. And I assume that the original one was, in the background, also light grey, but aged (40+ years!) …

A fitting grommet is available as well (diameter of the hole is 10 mm).

...and a fan-freakin-tastic replica it is! Awesome work Ralf! I was gonna suggest you send em out blind and the customer could drill whatever size grommet hole they need, but I think 10mm is a good choice. Plus not everyone can drill a nice clean hole...:)
