Dixie orange sparkle score! 18 inch bass drum !

HAPPY NEWS YEARS FELLOW VDF Friends

--Found these today on CL in Pittsburgh PA. He originally wanted $180. After bartering for a few weeks I got a phone call from the seller today offering me them to me for a steal. I ended getting them for under $100!

So what was included is

-5.5 X 13 inch snare drum

-8 X 12 Tom

-12 X 18 Bass drum

-what appears to be the original cymbal arm and japan stamped cymbal

Drum heads on the kit are not OG except the bass drum. Both BD skins look original and do not look like they were every removed. There is a issue with the bearing edge but it appears to be factory. Doesn't seem to interfere with the sound of the drum. Should i leave it alone or should i carefully push it back in place and glue it? I am thinking leave it alone.

Any info on what i have would be greatly appreciated. I was very surprised when i measured the drum to find out that it is a 18 inch bass drum. I didn't think MIJ stencil kits manufactured 13 inch snares OR 18 inch bass drums.

Oh and who has a 14x14 floor tom that would match this kit? PM ME PLEASE IF YOU DO!!

Drums have a knack of sounding FANTASTIC when you score like you did...enjoy them, and play them when you can. That bass drum is going to be SWEEEEET!

Hit like you mean it!!

Hey JM,

AWESOME KIT! My first "real" kit was that series of Dixie, except in Red Sparkle and with a 20" BD. Same tom arm and cymbal mount, Mine also had no floor tom. If I remember correctly, the lugs were also "club date" style like yours. Dixie Foil sticker as a badge. I have been looking for a set of those, just for nostalgic purposes. Having the original cymbal arm is a bonus. Finding a matching 14" might be a bit tricky, but you can easily find a cheap MIJ snare with those lugs (very common style) and use those for a floor tom and re-wrap to match if you had to. Finding a cheap 14" floor tom shouldn't be too hard. Great find!

Also, found this on Vintage Drum Guide; thought you would enjoy. I guess mine was an 18" bass drum too! Looks like you'll need a 13" x 13" Floor tom to be authentic.

Also, no mention of Gold/Orange Sparkle in the finish, but the only other kits I have seen of this model (other than mine) have been that color.

Nice. My first was a red sparkle kent kit. My parents got it out of the pennysaver in 1996 and I unfortunately sold it a couple yrs after. I ended up buying a orange sparkle kent kit in 07 but i still want the red sparkle kit for nostalgic reasons. Yeah I just want any mij orange sparkle floor tom for now. I could probably use my kent orange sparkle ft but it's a 16. I don't like 16 inch floors with a 18 inch bd.
