1980 Tama Superstar 9800 series Super Sunburst Finish

Loading...

Hello!

Since a month I'm the second owner of this beautiful Tama Superstar from 1980.

An 67 year old drummer finally made up his mind to sell this kit after a lifetime of playing drums. He has been the first owner since he bought this kit back in 1983.

Now 31 years later, this kit still is in good condition!

Now I want to know what the worth of this kit in this condition. I will post pictures of the entire kit, but also some detail picture of the shells.

What are you going to see?

Shellset (100% Birch, 6-ply,9mm shells with a high gloss lacquer super sunburst finish):

From now on I will show you some detail pictures of each shell.

I start with the 8x12 tom tom (No. 118957)

This drum is in very good condition.

Second drum is the 9x13 tom tom (No.128454)

This drum doesn't look that great inside. It sounds great but the lugs screws need to be changed because of oxidation. Fortunately the wood and bearing edges are in good condition.

Take a look:

Now have a look at the 16x16 floor tom (No. 119105)

Unfortunately this drum does have some rusty lug screws as well. But only the lug screws on the batter side are need to be replaced. So weird that not all screws are rusty.

Last drum: 14x24 bass drum (No. 128590)

Bass drum is in very good condition. This drum needs only to be cleaned up, just like all other drums.

Bass drum legs:

This one is damaged:

So I hope you had enough time to see all pictures?

Do you have any idea what should be an honest price for this kit?

Can anyone help me out to get at least 20 lug screws for replacement.

Can anyone help me out to get a bass drum leg?

I guess I need replace a mount plate of the bracket of the 13 inch tom tom

Thanks alot for taking your time to read!

I hope to get some response!

Stay cool!

That's a very nice kit you have. Half the links don't work though.

I'd use a King Beat snare or Mastercraft with this kit, but that's just me. Enjoy the kit!

plus one on finding a Mastercraft snare to match. The colour is not all that common and you rarely see it come up. I would think that you could ask 40 percent premium in comparison to a say a cherry superstar if you were to sell it. maybe even higher.

regardless that is a very nice kit enjoy.

For the parts i would track down a donor drum or kit they can be found cheap if you keep your eyes open.

That finish is beautiful, and rare, and collectable to Tama guys, especially in standard sizes. As far as parts, there's a for sale /wanted section here,or ,the parts you mention come up for sale on Ebay, all the time. It's still pretty much a buyers market out there, but why sell if you don't have to.But if you must, there is a Tama forum, where you may find a buyer.

I'm going to be burried with my vintage superstars.Keep them and play them.:)

Ok thx for answering but actually I would like to know what the kit is worth. Give me a price, a bid or something.

Value is what someone is willing to pay. And a rare finish may or may not increase that value. I'm not an appraiser, so this is just my opinion- $800/$1000. I own a Cherrywine 82' Superstar, all scritchy-scratchy and converted from concert toms. I don't believe high-line MIJ's have come into their own yet-they are undervalued. Everything about your set is good- standard dimensions, nice color and Tama hardware.

UPDATE...on Ebay now (12/14) is an Aqua Superstar kit. 80's vintage 24/12/13/16/18 no snare-no hardware. Asking price is $900. I think my high estimate may be a couple hundred low. BUT, Aqua is also a desirable color.
