What, no new pics of the resto? Come on John, quit "loafing" around. :p

John- I didn't touch a crumb until I got home!

Jeff- I had to give Bev props, the bread she baked is THE BEST that I've ever eaten. I could see myself raining indescribable horror down on that warm loaf with a knife and a stick of butter!!:D

Believe it or else!

Any chance of a sound file when your finished?

That is one sweet kit. You are truly preserving history for the

Next generation. It couldn't be in better hands.

No problema... I had planned to post up a sound file as a capper for this thread. A sound file would be a perfect way to conclude the restoration. I wish everybody would do it. I can't tell you how many great restorations I followed and I never get to hear what the drums sound like.

Sound-file when they're done...

Quick update: I'm working hard on the metal parts, it's a big job. They're coming out great though and I'm confident it can all be saved/restored.

Here's a before shot to jog your memory:

(see photo)

... and here is how they are coming out:

(see photo)

The bass drum is going to take a lot of sweat equity, but it will reward me for all the hard work. As difficult as this is, I'm really having a ton of fun doing it. Loving every second of it.

More photos as I git' r' done.

Purdie could you elaborate a little on how your dealing with rust.

I know your fond of the tumbler but that stuff doesn't look

Like it would fit.

What ever your doing looks like it's working.

I am using a buffing machine. I have a 6" fine wire wheel on one side and a 6" cotton buffer on the other. It takes a very light touch to knock the crud off of the parts without blowing through the plating. That's why it's taking so long to do all the hardware, I have be -very careful- about how much pressure I'm using with the wire wheel. It's slow tedious work and it has to go piece by piece. So far, no f'k-ups. The hardware is coming out shiny and clean as a whistle. I'm taking special care with this kit. I work on each piece until it's as perfect as I can make it. When it all goes back on the drum, it'll look spanking! :p

Jeff, thanks for the encouragement... My fingers are sore as hell! The encouragement helps to keep me motivated.

Purdie: What areas of work have you not entered?? Recording drummer, journeyman printer and machine shop operator on the buffing machine!!!!!

I recall working in a metal plating factory as a teenager. We were paid minimum wage of $1.60 to wire and dip the various pieces being worked on. Terribly nasty work. However, the buffers were making $7/hr because all the prior effort could be flushed down the toilet if you hit that new chrome plating the wrong way on a buffing machine. So I appreciate that you applying that careful touch on the kit's hardware. 'taint no joke from what I have seen.
