i have a slingerland shell that i'm thinking about using as a floor tom, but it needs new edges. it's a 70's tom and it has edges on both sides. however, they are 30 degrees with a round-over. i would like to recut them into baseball bat edges. can anyone help me with that?
i realize that i will lose a bit of depth on the drum to get rid of the chamfer, but i'm ok with that.

''Baseball bat bearing edges'' is just what Johnny Craviotto calls them. They are just dbl. round-over vintage edges. Gretsch had them, so did several vintage American drums from that era.
If you know how to do it yourself, just do a double round-over with the router. Remember to center the cut on top of an inner ply. If you've never cut edges before, send them to Precision Drum, or some other outfit of your choice and simply tell them what you want. Cutting edges is not expensive, if you are inexperienced, it is a job best left to the pro's.

the problem i have with these is that they came really jacked up from the factory.
they actually have two different profiles on each side. if you are looking at the drums from the top, they have a 30 degree edge from the 12:00 to 7:00 position, and the big round edge from 7:00 back to 12:00. it's like they switched bits midway into cutting the edge.
it would be much easier just to use a 30 degree round-over edge on them, but my 12" tom and bass drum both have the big round edge and i would like to keep that consistency.
that sucks big time a round flex hose cut in half and sand paper...
