Jeff, Lowe's has this product in 24"X99" maple too. I realize it might be sub standard for your level of workmanship, but thought I'd let ya know just in case...

I appreciate the input. I buy my veneers in 4'x8' sheets from my supplier. If you were closer I could have a sheet shipped to you. But what your doing is fine, Il bet you will have yours done before I do,lol!

Finally getting back to these. I am really thinking on birch veneer with a dark walnut color stain.

The bass drum and floor tom shells appear to have original lacquered maple interiors. Now, who paints over a maple finish with white paint? Not sure what to do with the insides at this point. I do have edge work to do before any finish work starts.

Yaaay it's back! Been looking forward to the continuation of this, and we may be veneering our shells at the same time, which should turn out to be good for me heh!

It's a bit more of a deal for me now, as I've ditched the idea of doing anything with that 20" MIJ shell, and now it's real Ludwig Club Dates I'm doin', so I'll be watching closely...

Jeff, I really dig the darker thermogloss finish. My local Sherman Williams mixed some stain for me, which is the one on the left. The color is a close match, but I used a satin finish, the one on the right is gloss. I should have used gloss. The Slingerland floors looks like mahogany to me, the Ludwig looks like maple, but you would know better than me. I vote for veneer / stain / thermogloss. Tommy

Dang, Tommy that tom came out great! Really pro looking finish. The stain match-up is perfect. That's always hard to do, match a stain finish to an existing one. Excellent job on that drum. I'm really impressed.

Tommy, your walnut thermogloss kit that you recently got really inspired me. In fact I found your thread on it and stole one of the pictures.

John, you are right, Tommy's stain match looks excellent! And it is hard to match colors. I did a red match myself a while ago for a guy using product right off my shelf. Here is a pic of the result.

Just got off the phone, ordered a sheet of birch veneer, here we go.

Hey Mitch, so your thinking maple veneer on the clubbies now? If you do that I hope you stain them, I get mad when people paint new wood,lol!

But, I do it all the time. All of my painted cabinets are made from hard maple, it takes paint very well!

Okay, hope your not mad Tommy, but here is the pic that got my mouth watering. Mine will be birch wood, but the color will be close to yours.
