Rogers R380 Info?

I am new to this forum and looking for some info on my drums. I didn't realize I had anything that interesting until another drummer suggested I check out my set.

I have a 5 piece Rogers R380 that I purchased almost-new around 1970 in SoCal. Here is a rundown of the components...

Bass - 14x22, 8 lug

Toms - 8x12, 9x13, floor 16x16

Snare - 5x14, chrome, 8 lug. Original snare and strainer which appears to be the Sta-Tite with the simple ROGERS imprint on the clamp bar. (Update - I think this is the Bantam model strainer). Snare shell has a paper sticker inside, approx. 1/2"x 1 1/2" with "No. 19316". No other stickers inside the toms. I have not pulled the opaque heads off the bass to look for any stickers there.

Shells are wood laminate construction. Insides are painted light gray. Outer color of bass and toms are blue pearl. I have not seen this color in the catalogs of the period; it looks like the black diamond pearl or marine pearl finish except it is royal blue.

All drums carry an oval aluminum badge with the big R, reading "R380 by Rogers". (On the snare the badge is actually a sticker, either metalized Mylar or clear Mylar with the chrome showing through.) The base drum heads are original and also carry the R 380 logo.

I still have the original bass drum pedal which is aluminum cast with the R 380 logo. The hi hat pedal says Ludwig; it is unclear how the Ludwig pedal became associated with the rest of the set.

Cymbals are all Zildjians that I accumulated in the late 60s and early 70s. The ride is an 18" K Istanbul, new stamp, faint signature inside the bell. The rest are Avedis, a 16" crash and 14" hi hat (New Beat, stamped on bottom only). (I am new at this so I hope I got all the identification nomenclature correct)

So with that, I have a couple of questions for the knowledgable crowd out there.

Is the blue pearl finish particularly unusual, or have I just not seen the right catalogs?

Did Rogers make a hi hat with the R380 logo similar to the bass pedal? I don't really know if the first owner swapped it out for the Ludwig or if there is some other story.

I am not in the selling market as I am getting back into playing (after years out of circulation due to demands of the day job). However, from a sheer curiosity standpoint I would be interested in any thoughts on valuation.

If I'm not mistaken, the R360's were made for Rogers by Yamaha when they tried to enter that end of the market around 67 or so. The R-380 probably arrived a bit later. Values for the 4-piece set seem to run around $400-500.

There will be others who have more experience with the R-xxx drums, and no doubt one of them will be the Ploughman, and onboard Rogers expert.

I bought the same exact kit in 1970 and just sold it a couple of years ago. The finish (blue pearl) is mentioned in Rob Cook's "Rogers Book" as well as R-380 catalogs.

You know, it did come with a hi-hat but not sure if it was marked 380. I'll have to look in the basement as it may still be there.

Hahahaaaa, I found it! I am a sad packrat. I think it was in the same place for 45 years!

Anyway, the footboard is indeed marked R-380. If I get a chance, I'll get a photo for you.

That is truly amazing. Is it in functional condition? I mean, I have lived - what, 45 years? - with this set without an original hi hat and it never crossed my mind until I started trying to trace its genealogy. As I said I have the original bass pedal but don't use it. It squeaks and needs some maintenance work. It has a leather strap (original) between the pedal and the fulcrum to actuate the beater. I am curious what the hi hat mechanism looks like...

Here it is. It is indeed functional but missing a couple of wing screws.
