What are these?

Wondering if anyone can help me identify these by hardware and finish. I need to know whether they are worth driving over 10 hours round-trip to aquire. They have no name on them, so I have little to go on.

For a ten hour drive you need much better pictures and info to make that decision. My guess are they are yet another stencil kit with luan shells. Missing hoops are a pain, from what I see, I would not make that trip.

Thank you!

I'm going to guess they are Hoshino drums (not Star) and not very high quality. I cleaned up a set of Hoshinos and they were pretty poor - not at the standard of Star or Pearl of the time. 10 hours is a long drive if you're not going there for another reason and the gas would probably cost more than the drums are worth

To me, they look like MIJs from around 1969. Not sure tho.

Well - I am slightly going to disagree here -

It is hard to tell from the pics - but my guess would either be Pearl or Hoshino - hardware looks to be more heavy duty - and note how many lugs there are:

BD - 10

both toms and FT - 8

This is not very common in MIJ. Though I prefer the thinner shells - those look to be the thicker which may (Pearl or Star) be an indication that they are post 67/68. Make sure there are no cracks in the wrap.

And think about this - yes, certainly some considerable gas money - but it is 5 hours one way (not 10) and that is not horrible if it is worth it. Use the most fuel efficient vehicle (those can fit in a Yugo - little 20 inch kick).

Then, try to find something else you can do in the city they are located in - in order to justify the drive. This includes good flip deals you may be able to find there - which can earn you the cost of the gas.

Of course - inquire about shipping - even if you need to include an incentive - unless the cost of gas would be less??

The rims are not a big deal to acquire. Again - make sure the wrap has no cracks - as that wrap is going to be impossible to replace/duplicate.

Of course there is always the option of finding another forum member who would be willing to pick them up for you and ship them if the seller is unwilling to ship. Seems the distance would be short which may make the shipping cost less than more.

Keep us informed -

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I will have to disagree...

I counted the T rods on the Bassdrum...1st ly...

Before commenting earlier...

Also, no rerings...so yes, thicker ply...hence later series..@70/73...

I std by my earlier post....$100/

if the seller wants to pkg up.. & shipping is under $50....

Then it's doable....

Otherwise unless you just want to buy this kit and yr planning a road trip that takes you around the corner from where these are located...

Something will come along that's (just right) for you...

There it is.....I'm glad I wrote it down ...lololololol

Hy guys,

looks like Pearl, could be Hoshino but because of the number of the lugs i would guess it`s Pearl - definetly no STAR!

Got a reply from the owner. Says they are "Crown" from the late 70s/ early 80s. Never heard of "Crown." Stencil set, I'm assuming, right? Also, picked up some Drum Zone toms in a deal to get a Ludwig concert tom yesterday. Never heard of them either. Made in China. Was really surprised at the sound from them. Anyone know anything about them?

I had a Crown kit - mid 60's. My first drum set. If they were local, a hundred bucks is on the high end of 'okay'. For a ten hour drive - nah. The only way I'd drive five hours one way was if one of my kids or a friend lived in the area. I doubt I'd even take 'em if they were free, with that drive.
