CB700 Parallel Lay snare ..who knows what?

Loading...

I bought a 6.5 shell like this for only five bucks at a drum shell graveyard sale at a local drum shop no hoops and no wires and no bar that runs below the shell the one inside the drum is intact

the weird thing is the drum looks like it was just made yesterday ...very very clean

I have some ten hole stick savers that i was going to use with it

but after seeing the complete drum here on BillnVick's old thread

...I am unsure about if they would be do-able?

That's a nice find and for 5 bucks it's a steal even though it's not complete. I would try to put the same type hoops on, the bottom one will be tough to find I believe. Good luck.

Hello neorich05,

Thanks for writing and sorry for such a delayed response

since putting this thread up I returned to the shop where I picked up this snare shell

I was searching for something completely unrelated to the above mentioned snare

and there sitting inside a bass drum shell under a few beat up tom shells was the bottom hoop to my drum

there of course are still some hard to find parts missing

but it was still great to find the hoop

Yes, the parts for the dual snare mechanism are hard-to-find. I gave up, and just redrilled for a standard type of throw-off. The drum sounds good. Mine is very clean as well! You would be welcome to the parts I do have... shoot me a pm and we'll work something out!

As for my drum, I just picked up a few more drums over-the-weekend on a trade (yes, trade -- a no money involved deal with a school district) that included a 90s Pearl 12x14 marching drum that a good share of it's parts are missing... EXCEPT for the complete, dual throw-off snare mechanism. It's going to mean drilling more holes... but should work nicely with my CB700 drum. I'll post some pics when I do get around to it -- but at this time it's not a high priority!

That's good to hear, you found a missing part :-) I hope you find more missing pieces for your lovely snare.

Bill: what about using a metal plate so you don't have keep drilling holes?

Cheers guys

Hi Kenwood!

I have one of these snare drums in the 5x14 size, complete with all parts! The snare mechanism is very nice and the drum sounds great!

I believe that this model was basically a Pearl Jupiter with different lugs.

From crankyfrankie

I believe that this model was basically a Pearl Jupiter with different lugs.

With all due respect, the Pearl Jupiter, especially the strainer mechanism, is nothing like the CB700 Parallel Lay. The Pearl mechanism is more like the Ludwig Super Sensitive, which really doesn't lower the snare wires in a parallel fashion. The CB700 mechanism, on the other hand, keeps the wires under constant and even tension in on or off position. I have both the CB700 and Super Sensitive snare drums and much prefer the mechanism of the CB700!

I ran into one of those a number of years ago, except it was complete. I seem to remember the rivets being loose on the strainer mech... I punched 'em up (re-spread the rivets) and it worked much better. I don't remember what I did with it, probably sold it on eBay. I do remember that it surprised me how nice and crisp it sounded.

Hi Bill!
