good tools cost real money I have used mine a good 35 times factory looking install every time, if you want a joke looking job use the DYI tool that is what you'll end up with. 2 cases of it already on this thread .

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Did you have the right thickness bolt? I used one a size thinner (home cheapo has a crap selection) and my grommet looks like the Dali painting of the melted clocks on the outside. I was concerned with the inside as the shell had some tear where the old one was removed. I figured the outside was fine as the inside rolled up perfectly. But the outside....sheesh!!!! I learned the hard way on this one. Sorry for the dark pics it's like the batcave in the basement here.

That's exactly how mine looked on the front. What did you do to fix it?

That`s two t*t nuts and a bolt. Not even hardened steel. Yours paid for itself.

I need to do this just once. That's a lot of money for a tool for a one time use.

I bought 3 more grommets. I'm going to use a trick I saw on YouTube. If you cut small slits on the back of the grommet and use the homemade tool, it works great.

This is a players it for me and will have coated heads, no one will see the back of the grommet. If I were restoring a kit to museum quality I'd buy a tool. For one grommet on a players kit, all I care about is the look from the outside.

If You are not too troubled by originality why not try one of the threaded variety.... I have used these on Tama's.. piece of cake..

Cheers

Clever idea. I just ordered a few more grommets. I'm gonna take another crack at it first. If I fail, this may be the way to go.

Only down side to buying the Jamminsam ones is. There $20.00 a pop if you aren't buying wrap from him.
