Ludwig Supralite

Has anyone bought or tried the LUDWIG Supralite snare that came out a couple of years ago. Interested in finding out what people thought of it cause I'm thinking of getting a 6.5 X 14. There priced resonably well. And looks like a well built steel shell snare. I think the shell on the Supralite is similar to the Supraphonic in thickness and in quality. I could wrong I don't know.

I'm not asking this to start a debate. Or to compare it to other snares. So please don't post something like "Save your Money and get a Supraphonic". or any other snare. All I want to know is What did you think of it.

I don't own one,but there are more than a few guys over at DFO that do.They tend to rave about them,in all sizes that Ludwig offers. They differ from a supra in that they are imported, and have a welded steel shell. The supra is made in the USA,and has a spun, and not welded ludalloy(aluminum/zinc alloy) shell.

At any rate,I haven't heard anything bad about those drums,in fact, nothing but best bang for the buck stuff.

AH yes that's right I forgot. I new they were imported but I didn't know they were welded. Which to me doesn't matter. Stupidly I didn't know that Supraphonics were spun. I learn something new about LUDWIG drums everyday. I'm glad I got in them.

Doesn't the Supraphonic come in 3 different shells.

- Chrome over Brass

- Chrome over Aluminum

- Chrome over Steel.

Is the steel shell version Welded or Spun?????

Yes they do.I was refering to the original, introduced in 63.Sometime in the 80's,early 90's I think,Ludwig started calling brass, bronze and even black beautys that were US made ..supraphonics in their catalogs. The only ones they didn't call supras were the acrolite and piccolo metal shelled drums.
