Will surely leave it alone if/until I am completely convinced of a tried and true technique shared here.

Changed out some head last night. Only one head to go.

Got the BD hoops back today (inlay groove cut). Will finish them off over the weekend, then perhaps soon I can get some pics shot of it Done!

Can anyone recommend a clear coat of some kind that I can just buy in a spray can.

I anticipate sanding between several coats and hope to finish these hoops over the weekend.

I have a Rogers Big R kit from 76 5pce ebony. What i did i used wet and dry and got rid of Remo logo although it does take the rough cote down its not bad once new logo is on. I carefully put Rogers logo over where it had been you cant notice. You could always spray over rubbed down area if at bottom of your drum.

I don't think there is a way to remove it. Why are you against spray paint? That looks to be the only way.

How did you get the vertical stripes around the perimeter of the head? That's cool!

Coated heads are tough! I tried to remove a Evans logo to use another ink stamp. Acetone (nailpolish remover in my case) did take the stamp off but also the coating too. Remo heads might be easier but that Evans ink is a tough SOB~!

Well, as you can see, I decided to just use the head upside down and left the logo intact. I was VERY pleased with how the head came out - so much so that I decided to keep the head and use it on another Star kit.

The vertical white lines on the outside of the head - those are strips of adhesive weatherstripping which are installed on the back of the head/inside the drum. It functions like the round felt piece on an SKI, providing just the right amount of muffling and an EQing effect. I have been doing that for years and just trying to make it look good as well. The use of this weatherstripping allows for use of alot of old white BD heads that would otherwise be deemed unusable. You see, something like that is necessary in order to get the performance that we have in the modern reso heads (like the Evans EQ# reso heads)

OK - been long enough. Here is the deal with this Star kit.

I just spent about 4 months in Orange County, CA this summer for work. While I was there, I restored this kit. Well, I decided at the 11th hour that I was returning to Michigan to stay, so this kit is still in CA - and now is for sale.

I bought some maple hoops for it, had inlays cut, applied poly-eurothane to them and they turned out great - so much that I brought them back with me to Michigan, also did so with the Star Reso head. Sorry - just put so much work into those that I could not bear to let them go - and have several kits to use them on here in Michigan.

Anyhow - I am attaching pics to show the results. The 3 red drums are for sale, and then the Pearl snare is also for sale separately.

Nights and weekends - I spent about 5 weeks on this project. The Star drums were stripped, all chrome parts soaked and polished, wraps were polished, new heads were installed after the edges were lightly sanded. This kit, as you can see, sounds and looks fantastic. The cymbal arm off the BD will NOT be included in the sale and there never was any tom mounting hardware besides the bracket you see there that came on the shell originally.

I will be starting a F/S thread soon, but let me know if you are interested and maybe you can even get the jump on it.

Sizes are 12, 16, 20 The pic with the shells - 12 is on the right (grey painted interior) and the 16 is on the left (not painted). Not sure why the FT is not painted to match.

I had to re-drill and re-tap hole for the bolts for the legs (on the MOUNTS that is), and also make some legs - aluminum.

Not sure what that stain is on the reso edge of the inside of the BD shell.....but it is dry and there is 100% integrity there.

Lastly, the SKI was new this summer and therefore is in excellent condition. All the heads were new this summer and are in excellent condition. This kit was used for one audition and it sounded AWESOME, especially this BD - amazing how far we have come with head technology. When this sells, it will have no front head, and no front hoop, but all the claws and T-rods are there. The original inlay for the one hoop will be included as well.
