From the photo it appears the wires are intact and the drum should clean up nicely… congrats.

I have concerns about the wrap since it looks pretty rough. All the chrome looks very pitted. But for $80 shipped, I think it's a small amount to pay for a piece of history and a potentially great-sounding players drum. This is coming from Florida which has notoriously high humidity. When I used to buy machinery that came from Florida, they would always have signs of being exposed to high humidity. Hopefully the snare wires are not stretched out. Looking forward to receiving the first Premier drum in my collection of Ludwig, Rogers, and Slingerland snares.

The wrap was practically disintegrating when I received it and there was no way it could be salvaged. The Double 10 wires appeared original and are in great shape for a 50 year old drum.
The drum is now 98% finished. Still need to re-attach the badge (does anyone have a Premier grommet to spare?). Also, after messing with getting the snare mechanism out and further handling the drum, the re-rings are starting to separate on the batter side in a few places. I inspected this drum thoroughly before doing any work and I never noticed any separation. I'm fairly convinced it happened because I had to flex the shell a bit to get the snare mechanism out - it's a major pain. I plan to re-glue the re-ring with Titebond Instant Bond Thin Wood Adhesive because it appears to be thin enough to get into the small gap.
All chrome parts were soaked in Dawn, scrubbed with Scotch Brite, and polished with Flitz. They were all extremely pitted and gross looking before any cleaning. They look 75% better but are still obviously pitted beyond repair. I think they will pass the 5 ft-5 seconds rule (ok, maybe 10 ft-5 seconds without my glasses).
After removing the old glue with mineral spirits, I sanded with 100, 150, and finally 220 grit sandpaper. I hand-rubbed three coats of Minwax Red Mahogany stain. When applying the third coat, it seemed like most of it stayed on the surface before rubbing off the excess. So, I stopped after the three coats. I do not plan to apply any varnish or clear coat because I like the matte finish as-is.
I reassembled the drum with a new Ludwig reso and a used Remo Ambassador just to see how things sound at this point. Sorry purists, I ditched the Premier slotted tension rods and substituted regular rods that I had in my parts collection (new ones on the batter side, used ones on the reso site). It is still a very articulate drum, even with the re-ring separation. I'll put on a new batter after the badge is installed and re-rings are re-glued.

At least beeswax it, stain is porous and in goes moisture. It looks so much better that you got it.

That's a Royal Ace alright - and it came out pretty good thanks to you :) The pitting is minimal and the shell looks very classy the way you did it. Adjusting the wires and the parallel mechanism may take a bit of experimenting, but the sound you get is more than worth it :)
You can get grommets and other parts on e-bay anytime.
