Rare and beautiful

Loading...

I was sent these pictures today via troutsounds.com. This Australian Dandy kit is from the late 40's or early 50's. A Dandy drum set in this condition is super rare. I do mean rare. The hardware alone is worth a fortune. And these are not cheaply made drums. Some time in the not too distant future, I see 7-10K as reasonable for this kit. 5K at the moment. Enjoy.

Wow! Very Nice!

I've never seen bass drum spurs like these. And those mounts for the floor tom legs would be a neat option to replicate for a kit with tube lugs.

Thanks for sharing your photos.

What wood are they made of?

Beautiful. What wood are they made of?

No-one knows 100%. Local timber. Mostly Rose Alder, a rainforest tree native to Northern Australia - now a protected species. Some Huon Pine, Queensland Maple and even Jarrah. I think the Dandy kits are mostly Rose Alder. They have edges a bit like Gretsch; no reinforcing rings; with a silver painted interior. They sound great too. The Dandy snares are prized by collectors.

And the pics are where? I know they were there originally as I saw 'em! THIS is why we prefer/recommend using attachments on the VDF! One can CLICK on the PhotoBucket "box" and see them that way, but as attachments, they're right in view. Trout: Can you get 'em back and post as attachments? THANKS!!!
