18" Paiste 505 Green Label Heavy Crash

Loading...

Hi,

I'm hoping the cymbal guys can give me some info on a cymbal I just purchased. It's an 18" Paiste 505 Green Label Heavy Crash. I know they discontinued these sometime back in the 80's I think. I really don't know much, if anything at all about the 505's. Are the 505's good pies? Anybody ever play one?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

505s are made of CuSn8 like 2002s but using more mass automation in the process. Personally I really like them, especially the 505 hi hats which are really nice and thin (think Steely Dan).

I just read an old review online. These things sold for $450 retail back in 1980. I found an NOS 18" 505 just like mine for sale for $250. I did good, I only paid $50 for the one I have. I'm waiting on delivery.

With Paiste it always pays to check the wiki for info:

Even if it doesn't have an independent review, it almost aways gets you what Paiste said at the time, plus the weight info which Sean has very kindly collected up, plus some idea of the changes in the logos over time.

Thank you! I knew if I posted here in the cymbal forum that somebody would hook me up with the info I needed. I'm excited to hear it. The last time I was pleasantly surprised by (not Zildjian) cymbals was when I discovered Istanbul/Agop cymbals. I have needed a dark crash for over my floor tom. I have the bright crash over the rack tom. This is my first date with a Paiste cymbal. Let's see if the romance blossoms, or if it turns out to be a one night stand.

Thanx again for the link. :p

Just a word of caution...

She doesn't put out on the first date.

For $50 first dates can go either way

My fav 505 cymbal I have is my 20 inch MEDIUM ride. SO nice as a wet ride - and then Great crashing ability.

Love the 505 series!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!
