Well it was a good goose chase, and several hundred dollars later I'm as finished with these drums as I can get, I think, unless someone has some real Aqua Satin Flame inlay strips laying around (the darker ones in these pictures are Turquoise Satin Flame from Precision).
All vintage Gretsch everything except for a pair of spurs that I made myself and the afore-mentioned inlay strips. Not a single extra hole in any drum, factory bearing edges, and with one very small exception none of them needed any work.
This was a really great project but I'm not entirely sure the sound is for me. I'll play a few gigs with them and make sure about that and then I'll most likely sell them.
