60's Leedy Shelly Manne COB Snare

Loading...

Check out the snare on the bottom left of the catalog below. That is the aluminum model. Notice the matte finish, lack of 3 lines in the middle of the shell and the strainer is a basic Slingerland instant type, not a 3-point like mine. Plus, it seems that the aluminum model was only offered in a 6-lug version and the one in the link you sent is 8-lug and looks identical to my snare. Even though a magnet will not stick to aluminum or brass, the brass weighs significantly more than aluminum. What is he asking for his snare? I don't recall seeing a price. If he thinks it is aluminum, you might be able to strike a better deal!

For comparison, here is the catalog page for the snare in question. Although it is not listed as a brass shell in the catalog, I can tell you that it definitely is brass (along with the hoops) and it sounds fantastic!

I am not a potential buyer, but he wants only 1200 dkr - 210$ today.

He is usually capable of making a distinction between alu and brass, so unless alu is totally impossible, I´d say he is right.

I am not in the know of different Leedy strainers, but his is visible here.

You are free to do as you like. No dresscode for you!

He checked it again, and it brass, as you said.

I have told him, and he has changed his ad.

"Messing" means "Brass" in danish - whereas "Brass" means "Rubbish" in danish (almost).

Thanks for assistance.

By the way - what is a likely price in the US for such a drum?

I don't know about serial numbers under the lug plates...but if it is a COB shell with Broadway strainer and butt plate, then it's a Shelly Manne model. Check out the catalog page I posted a few posts back.
