Speaking of Sakae drums

I love the whole idea of this kit. This company has been making drums for 45 years. Attracting a few good endorsers too.

Yeah, when everyone was talking about Yamaha moving production to China, the topic of Sakae came up. Gotta love the old 3-ply lay-up.

Yeah, these look great. I wish there were more audio samples, especially at higher tunings.

Those Trilogy drums sound very good-no distributor in N.E., cannot buy drums without playing them. Upside-down RIMS mounts?

Since Sakae has been making Yamaha's drums for decades, I expect these drums to be simply great too!

I found a youtube clip with higher tunings - now I can't find it anywhere. It featured Eric Harland; a freakishly good drummer; but not in my opinion a major sales inducer. There are a few clips of him out there, but this was just solo and the toms were Gretsch tight. Ash Soan is another great drummer, but not in the mainstream radar at the moment. But it's early days and those drummers could have gone with anyone. I checked out how they make the drums. After watching the DW factory tour, this was like watching Gran bake muffins, after visiting Sarah Lee. I thought "wow - this is how they made all those Yamaha RC's?"

Me neither. Hopefully they will pick up more distributors. The hardware for the Trilogy series is very cool. I love that light hi-hat design.

In the USA, it's different. You guys are drowning in nice vintage kits. We have none! And I'm not going to put down $3500 on a vintage 3 ply Ludwig without a careful examination. My first test of a good kit is to detune a tom or two completely then see what happens when you wind up each lug carefully, the same amount. I had a Ludwig kit that failed that test fairly comprehensively. Doesn't mean it couldn't sound great; but I sold it because it was too much work.

The Trilogy kits are not cheap, btw. Looking forward to the shipment arriving though.

Legend Drums (the late 80's - early 90's Kaman ones) suspended the toms and floor tom legs the same way, off the bottom lugs. The pix is from the Legend Drums Facebook site. In the picture you can see the mount, although the tom is on a snare stand.
