Nice, but I'd bet those drums are Metric Sized. And from experience, I know that Metric sized drums are a royal pain in the A$$.

I've been drooling over these....verrry pretty!!

The thing that bugs me is the bubbling of the veneer.....

Perhaps some of our veneer-gurus can chime in?

Will this increase over time and become an issue..?...more so than it is already?

Thanks

Not original by any means, was that the bare wood?? Then it's been stripped I can sell you an original late 40s kit for that kind of money, all original white duraplastic

Here's part of the description from the auction......

"The kit I promised myself I would never sell. Oh well.

Vintage 1950s Premier kit with two BD mounted cymbal arms and tom holder. Incredible golden wood finish, a combination of deep quilting and random, darker veining. I have never seen anything like it. Photos do not do it justice.

Bought this in filthy condition at a UK drum show in 1995. Cleaned and laquered the shells. Hand rubbed interiors and bearing edges with beeswax and 0000 wire wool. Most of the hardware on toms was too far gone so replaced with excellent vintage and NOS items from the workshop. Original hardware has been used on bass – some wear on tension lugs and rods.

Shells are near perfect, round, reinforcing rings 100% intact without any separation from the shells. Bearing edges perfect. See photos 11 and 12

I have no idea about when and where the fantastic wood finish (apparently it is Karelian Birch) was applied. The guy I bought the kit from used to work in the Premier factory in Leicester, UK and said it was a one-off show kit made in the factory in the mid-1950s. Looking at the quality of the seams and finish at the bearing edges that is entirely possible. See photos But be aware that over the years the grain of the birch has bubbled slightly, and the surface is slightly lumpy to the touch."

Might be true, maybe not......I don't really care, they are beautiful, tune up nicely, and sound great.....

I'm happy to be the new caretaker....!! ...:):)

FYI - Premier never made 'metric' drums, they are 'pre-international' which were Premier's approximation to size dating back to the days of calf heads.
