OK, the results are in! These cymbals arrived today. It was a case of opening the package, taking the contents out of the package, examining them for a brief moment before throwing them in the bin. These things are not even cymbals. They are bent out of shape. I actually had to stand on one of them to pop the thing back into shape. I caught myself doing that in the mirror and I laughed. That's what these things are- joke cymbals. I've already gotten a great laugh out of them.

They have no maker's markings. The 12" has the JAPAN stamp on the underside of the bell. It's sounds close to a cymbal. Close, but no cigar. As for the 20" and 18"? Think of a sheet of scrap metal. That's what they sound like. I mean, that's actually what they sound like. No difference! I'm not even exaggerating. A pile of scrap metal.

Sorry to hear that. I know a guy who used a crap cymbal for the shade a lamp he made. He had the lamp sitting right behind his drums. He had the option of reaching back to hit it whenever he was looking for that funky type sound.

live and learn. In the great scheme of things it's not a terrible loss and scrap metal prices are quite good.

I once (stupidly) bought a "drum with case" that had no photo for $40 BIN plus another $15 for shipping. Figured it must be a snare and had to be worth the gamble. Anyway, a cheaply made goat skin djembe turned up in a nylon zip bag. Sold it for $5, less commission, at a local auction house. I've been more careful ever since:)

I thought the 18" was a Zildjian or Paiste. A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. :)

I know an old timer who used to play back in the day and he's always asking me if I ever have any old cymbal that I don't want he'd gladly take them. I might give him these. He might even give me a couple of bucks for them.

Oh that? That's nothing. I once paid out $17,000 on a snare drum head signed by Phil Collins. I put that snare head on a cheap snare and played my heart out, thinking about Phil. It broke within a couple of days. band2

It's what Phil would have wanted.

Video sound file here for your bemusement. They're Turkish? Would you say? check out the lathing, have a look at that hammering! I did it myself with a hammer. It's well struck! My aim is true. :D I take a lot of pride in my craft.

I would put an inexpensive battery powered clock movement on those and resell them as cymbal clocks. I think that might be kinda cool actually.
