Blair - Maybe not, my brother! I own a 62' SBP Hollywood kit that came with two 12" rack toms. That's how those kits went out. This silver sparkle kit has two 13"s but it fits with the Hollywood set-up and is probably a plus in terms of being 'original.'

Even with the two holes, (which I wouldn't touch, Gerald is correct, let the next owner decide,) you're sitting on a $1500. to $1800 + drum kit. If it comes with a COB or a matching J-Fest then the price jumps higher. But the two 13"s is not a minus in my book. It's just how those kits came from the factory.

So the real problem here if i understand is it's originality?

The setup my uncle wanted is giving me a lot of trouble trying evaluating it. ;)

Most people tell me it's worth almost nothing because of the extra tom.

Really confuse! loll

Hard to sell when people don't know what the kit really his.

Need a particular buyer who really knows what i have right?

So my best option is to sell it as is with the COB.

I will polish it to get get all shinny and put it for sale.

The kit + the COB i can ask around what price?

Thanks a lot guys!

$1800. to $2000. w/ the COB. The COB instantly adds $500/$600+ value to the kit. If you throw in the brass too... more! That's a sweet vintage package for the right guy.

The second tom was not installed factory...so I still say it is a strike...

Also, second tom is not a 12"...so another strike...

I know,I know...someone will say you just tune 1 tom different....I just can't get my head around that scenario...

The kit is a fantastic kit and is worth alot of money. Don't listen to anyone who tells you different. If you have to sell it just clean it up and sell it exactly as is.But don't give it away! You have one of a kind there. If it was mine I wouldn't sell it, I'd play it out on gigs.

Blair - Click on the first photo in post #12. If that kit was sitting in Steve Maxwell's showroom in New York he'd have a $2500. to $2750. price tag on it - as it sits.

Pairs of 12's or 13's can be tuned apart easily. Getting a good spread on the toms is the same as any other set-up. You just tune them where you need them to be according to your own music needs. But it's possible to get a good spread out of two same size toms.

Thanks again guys!

Very interesting, learning a lot on my uncle's drum set.

If only he was still here, got a lot of questions to ask him!

I'll give it a good clean up and polish the chrome first, really needs it.

It's been stored for almost 40 years...

But, for the asking price, i'm still a bit confused. ;)

I don't want to sell it, only thing remaining from my family but i have to.

That's the crappy part...

Thanks for your time, really appreciate it!

That's a really nice kit. The way I look at it is you have two tom mounts on the bass drum to hold two toms. I have seen two rail mounts on a bass drum before. On this forum I believe. As far as the two 13" I don't believe it was that uncommon at the time to have two mounted toms of the same size. I have two kits with twin 13" and have no problem with tuning intervals between them. They sound great. I have always thought larger toms tuned up a little higher sound good.

If it's a money thing there has to be some alternative action you can take that doesn't include selling the kit. Is there any other way to raise the needed funds? After the emergency passes (and they always do,) you'll regret having sold this family memento. The best thing to do to honor your uncles memory would be if you set it up and play it. Maybe in a band some day where it can bring some pleasure to others and while the music is playing the people can forget their cares and worries even if only for a moment.

Think about it...
