Hi

Here is a gong I have. I sent some pics to a vintage website and they tell me this is a trans stamp. The Stand is definitely old. at least the top half. I put it on an old ludwig stand I had and it fit.. Sounds amazing. what do you think its worth?

Gongs didn't show up in Zildjian's catalogues until more than a decade after the trans stamp eras were over.

While it doesn't look quite as deeply impressed as most trans stamps I've seen Is it just a coincidence that it seems be impressed on both sides? Is it possible they made gongs for special orchestral orders earlier even though they weren't listed as a regular catalog item? And wouldn't 10 years after the trans stamp era put it into the early '60s? When were the three dots added to the '60s stamps? Any thoughts on when this gong is from?

Don't know what it's worth, but it is a Trans Stamp gong. Actually, to be technical it's a tam-tam and not a true gong, but that's a matter of semantics.

How does that sound if mounted horizontally on regular cymbal stand? Can it be used like a regular cymbal? Thanks, it looks very cool.

You could do that i tried it years ago but I prefer to play it off to the side by the floor tom so I can ride it and use it for effects .. The stands actually has a nice sound and can be played ... I'll try and put a little vid out if you folks are interested ..
