Sonor D518

Just picked this awesome guy up and already had some even better offers on it. It's fairly rare these days in the Sonor world.

Kinda like John Bonham and Steve Smith snare sound in one.

Manny,

That is a stunning drum! Would love to play/hear that thing. How many plies? Gotta love Sonor!

I believe it is a 9 ply shell (beech of course). Honestly it's an amazing drum and my wife really wants me to keep it so. I had a few several offers already but man this thing sounds great and is my first 8" deep snare.

I would have to keep that one for a while myself. Are both hoops original or is one a replacement?

That is one awsome snare you`ve got there in super condition and a keeper for sure. The 8" deep Sonors don`t seem to come up for sale very often and they have such a warm throaty sound to them.Is it a 90`s model?

The top one is a replacement. Looks like a Hella (German company) diecast hoop up top. From Sonor they did not come with die cast hoops - or at least not in the catalog.

On that note I would like to mention that Sonor does not always offer kits from the catalog. A good point would be my Sonor Prolite kit which is not a cataloged yet 100% factory kit. In fact if you talk to any Sonor endorsers they will look at you puzzled if you mention cataloged setups.

I believe that it is from the mid to late 80's to be honest. The quality is out of this world. I would rather part with two or three other snares vs. this guy. In the context of rock or pop music it is the bees knees.

I have a Sonor 8" deep from 1988 and i know what you mean about the quality being out of this world! IMHO they are the best made modern snares in the world.Enjoy that beauty you`ve got there Manny.

Wayne,

The guy who wanted it would not take no for an answer. Anyway I had a great local offer and he more or less matched it. I didn't want to sell it but it gives me $$ to go on the hunt for more great sounded rare drums. Oh well such is life. I have a pile of snares.
