CADET Kickdrum I found in dump. HELP!

Loading...

I found this kick in the dump yesterday. It's 20x14 and by the looks of things its original wrap under the black is a blue sparkle. Can anyone tell me more, there are no #'s or labels. I have a bunch more pics. Tell me more please. Thanks, Brad.

What the heck? I'm hanging out at the wrong places. Obviously, I need to spend less time at school and more time at the dumps! How many drums have been saved from the garbage bins this month alone? Man oh man, what is wrong with American today.........

That was my initial thought.

I think it's time to befriend some garbage men.

If insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, is it insane to practice?

Tom mount apparatus & badge look '60's Japanese...but it's just the single-point thru-lugs with tension roods...which usually is generally a bit older than '60's...the mystery would be revealed if you posted a shot of the shell interior.flower

OK, I see you posted more under another thread...you could have just posted those pics on this thread.

It's a '60's Japanese, probably made by Pearl. Interior shows luan shell with reinforcing rings. Dead giveaway.

Not worth much, but if you clean it up, sand the bearing edges, figure on how you wanna remove the paint...it can be a decent bass drum.

Hey guys thanks for all the info. Anybody got any suggestions on how to remove that old paint? I would like to get it playable at least, it would be a good addition to a cheap late 80's early 90's Ludwig kit that I've redone. Either as a double kick or a nice floor tom LOL. Gonna go to the dump tomorrow and see if I can find the rest of the kit. Wish me luck on my dump diving!

There are 2 things I can think of.

1) Fine sandpaper, 250 to 320 grade. Try it on a section of paint (on the bottom) and see if it comes off easily w/o messing the sparkle beneath.

2) a chemical paint stripper LIKE citri-strip or something similarly on the medium to mild side. Don't go with a heavy-duty, caustic stripper; I am sure that layer of paint doesn't need it and paint never bonds well to wraps anyway.

Again, try it on a spot and see how quickly it works..and again, check to see if it damages the wrap below...
