i'll give it a stab. see what I can remember. late 70's/early 80's I think. they were brilliant finish. usually a little on the heavy side, as is your 18. ive seen a few with no lathing on the bell at all. neat cymbals.

Horrible, possibly. That's a value judgement. Polished on purpose at the factory: yes 100%.

Avedis Zildjians were sold as brilliants under the A Zildjan & Cie trademark, although it is also possible to have brilliant finished cymbals in the Avedis line of the day.

Yeah mon. I've just got 70s in my reference file. Not dated to exact years. I've seen (but don't have to hand) catalog scans (or maybe ads?) which show them.

@ Heraldo: Price wise? They seem to go for about the same price A. Zildjians of a similar vintage (70s) and weight, and diameter (obviously) would go for. So you can just hop over to eBay and use advanced search to find sold (not just closed) auctions to get a price range. Heavier doesn't get as high a price as light. Yours is very heavy. Supply is plentiful for all 70s A Zildjians.

But you do need to adjust for used pricing in your home country. On past experience I suspect the used prices will be higher there (converted to US Dollars) than you see on eBay. So you may have gotten a reasonable deal. It all depends on the country specific calibration of prices.

Hi guys, thanks for your inputs!

Mike, as usual, an open book.

Zen, buddy, you´re from the "far down south" also!

You may know what it means to trying to be a "collector"

(Wow, such a pretentious noble title in my case... "any drum hoarder" fits accurately..)

In any case, I´m not in drum deal business, just I buy what my eyes and pocket believes to be nice to play and display, LOL

I guess, in this particular case, that It was at the average price for, maybe a little bit high, but nothing to "kill myself" deal

I found this catalog image, very cool at my opinion (see bellow).

When I´ll get the cymbal into my hands I´ll upload some more pics and info.

Best Regards

Those scratches are not from the factory. When you polish Bronze you use a cloth and cream. That looks hit with a wheel.

When I order brilliant finish sheet bronze, they say it`s in the mixture. I don`t know about that but it makes sense to me.

Sorry if I misunderstood your original post.

I now understand you are referring to the micro scratches we see in the closeup. I initially thought you were commenting on the fact that is was highly polished (brilliant finish). Since the original poster didn't appear to know specifically about that trademark and brilliant finish I thought we needed to establish that it is supposed to be brilliant finish. Are we agreed the cymbal is a brilliant finish and that was done at the Zildjian factory on a machine?

I can't say about you ordering sheet bronze and what "is in the mixture". I do know that Zildjian polished them on a buffing machine and patented the process, and from memory the machine once caught fire and there was a scare at the factory which was originally written up in the newspaper. I'm sure it was posted here, possibly by Drumaholic.

Alas, the search function isn't helping me or I'd post a link.
