Has anyone ever come across any Ludwig drum that APPEARS entirely original EXCEPT for a shell that was drilled twice all the way around - the bowtie lugs placed & putty? added & touched up with white paint?
I'm guessing this was some rookie mistake ... or the shell was reused & re-drilled for the bowties to fit.
The smaller holes = 1 5/8" ... whereas the bowtie = 2 1/4" both measured from the center of the holes.
Badge = 147885 = late '64-'65.

These extra holes/patches are not apparent in the recent auction for this drum. I would be interested in seeing some pictures of the repairs.

I am LEANING heavily toward a Ludwig drill hack, or some legitimate Ludwig factory reason for this drilling. I'd hate for him to be my dentist - Chris
It looks a little more like 2 1/8" not 1 1/8"The question is what lug would have used the smaller dimension? Imperials and bowties are interchangeable, right?

Whoops! Smaller = 1 5/8". That's the magic question: What lug fits. & I'm hoping someone has an idea as this is an ebay snare that I was chipper about until I removed the lug - which I'll be doing EVERY time I buy from here on out,

So how does this affect vintage value? Certainly it's not perfect; but it is a possible factory fix.
My MO is refurbishing to as close to original condition as possible w/out mods. In other words, I'll find the remaining CD kit to complete & resell after hours of work. I don't really mess w/ crap ... but am now faced w/ a lesser than specimen I'd not have bid on at all knowing what I know now.
