No More Evans 24" Hydraulic Heads? What Gives?

I'm shopping for heads online, and am shocked to find Evans doesn't seem to make 24" Hydraulic bass drum heads anymore. Am I the only one that thinks that decision is foolish?

I'm frustrated because I have 2 80s Tama Imperialstar 24" Basses, and I really like how my 80s black CAD/CAM Rock sounds on the one. I'd like to get one for the 2nd drum, which sorely needs it. The pinstripe head on it rings like crazy and is unusable.

Am I stuck looking for used heads to turn up that are still usable? Anyone have any 24" hydraulics lying around? For that matter, I'd be interested in older hydraulics of other sizes too, particularly CAD/CAM era, to match what I have.

Just checked the Evans site and it appears that they only make 22" heads for bass drums in hydraulics. I would contact them and see if they could make a 24 for you.

The more ring the better.

I just had a 50's Ludwig 22" with coated ambassadors on it and it was awesome.

The decay on one solid kick was a full 7 seconds. (I timed it)

That's awesome! Yeah, I actually got a new idea for this drum to take advantage of it's resonant nature. I'm using it as a side drum / mock gong bass. I have the Pinstripe on the batter and an Ebony series Weather King bass head on the reso with a 12" hole in it. I'd like to say it sounds good in that purpose, but it really doesn't..lol. It doesn't seem to have any oomph. I wouldn't mind the sustain as much if there was some meat to go with it, but there's just nothing there. I had that problem with the first bass drum when it had these heads on, and switched to the hydraulic.

My Slingerland bass is quite ringy and it doesn't bother me at all, as I use the set for lighter stuff, and the whole set really matches sonically. However, this set has concert toms with CS heads, and hydraulic bass on the main BD, so it's a pretty controlled set. Thus, the ringy 2nd bass drum really stands out. It just all depends on what you're going for with each set I guess.

Oh, btw, my bass drum rings at a very clear low C for 12 seconds! Now that's sustain..lol.
